Railway had, has and will continue to play a prominent role in most of societies as socially and economically more efficient transport modes. The Trans-Iranian Railway, was a main railway building project commenced in 1927 and completed in 1938 by management of Persian monarch, Reza Shah, and entirely with indigenous capital. It links Iran’s capital, Tehran, with the Persian Gulf and Caspian Sea. During the land reforms in 1963, the Trans-Iranian railway was expanded to link Tehran to Mashhad, Tabriz, and Isfahan. Iran is located in the “heart zone” of the Middle East, which is the most convenient way to connect Eurasian Cargo traffic, and also the connection point between the Persian Gulf and CIS republics by taking advantage of railway networks. These advantages leads to practical solutions for transit operations using territory of Iran.
